2025 Ford Ranger

With bragging rights to the North American Truck of the Year title, the 2025 Ford Ranger has the versatility to suit a range of needs and uses, from the jobsite to the trail. This model year’s changes include the introduction of the Black Appearance Package (available on the XLT and Lariat trims), which adds a blacked-out grille, wheels, bumpers, exterior badging, and accents. Ford has also added some new exterior paint colors.

For the Ranger’s power source, there are three EcoBoost engines in the mix: the standard 2.3-liter, the 2.7-liter V6 (available on select trims), and the Raptor-exclusive 3.0-liter V6. The no-nonsense XL focuses on utility with smart storage and practical cargo solutions, while the XLT receives conveniences such as wireless smartphone charging and extra power outlets. The plush Lariat prioritizes comfort with a leather interior and premium amenities, including a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. For drivers looking beyond the pavement, the trail-ready Raptor boasts locking differentials, an off-road suspension, racing shocks, and drive modes for optimal handling on dirt, rock, and sand.

Trims, Powertrain, and Performance

The 2025 Ranger has four trim choices – XL, XLT, Lariat, and Raptor – all of which come as a four-door SuperCrew cab with a 5-foot bed and a fully boxed frame. The standard powertrain on the XL, XLT, and Lariat pairs a turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine (output: 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque) with a class-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission. These three trims get a standard rear-wheel drivetrain (RWD) and achieve an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. They’re eligible for a four-wheel-drive (4WD) system with Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly.

A 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 making 315 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque is available for the XLT and Lariat. It comes with 4WD and returns 19 mpg city/23 mpg highway. The trail-driven Raptor is also 4WD-only but gets Ford’s 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, boosting the horsepower output to 405 and torque to 430 lb.-ft. It’s rated at 16 mpg city/18 mpg highway.

Most Ranger trims can tow up to 7,500 lb. when equipped with the optional Trailer Tow Package; the Raptor’s towing limit is 5,510 lb. Payload capacity maxes out at 1,788 lb. All trims get a drive mode selector with settings like Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow/Haul, and Slippery. The Raptor adds Off-Road, Rock Crawl, Baja, and customizable MyMode.
