The 2025 Ranger has four trim choices – XL, XLT, Lariat, and Raptor – all of which come as a four-door SuperCrew cab with a 5-foot bed and a fully boxed frame. The standard powertrain on the XL, XLT, and Lariat pairs a turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine (output: 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque) with a class-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission. These three trims get a standard rear-wheel drivetrain (RWD) and achieve an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. They’re eligible for a four-wheel-drive (4WD) system, which gets the same automatic 10-speed transmission but with an upgrade to Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly, which allows drivers to change between RWD and 4WD while the truck is in motion. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for the first three trims with 4WD is 20 city/25 highway.
A 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 making 315 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque is available for the XLT and Lariat. It comes with 4WD and returns 19 mpg city/23 mpg highway. The trail-driven Raptor is also 4WD-only but it gets Ford’s 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, boosting the horsepower output to 405 and torque to 430 lb.-ft. It’s rated to achieve 16 mpg city/18 mpg highway.
Most Ranger trims have a maximum towing capacity of up to 7,500 lb. when they’re equipped with the optional Trailer Tow Package; the Raptor’s towing limit is 5,510 lb. The payload capacity can reach up to 1,788 lb. All trims get a drive mode selector with settings called Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow/Haul, and Slippery. The Raptor adds settings for Off-Road, Rock Crawl, and Baja, plus the customizable MyMode. It also has electronic-locking front and rear differentials (optional on the lower trims), an electronically controlled on-demand two-speed transfer case, and forged aluminum double A-arm front suspension and Watts-link rear suspension with trailing arms, both with 2.5-inch FOX live valve racing shocks.
