Powertrain

The 2025 Mustang GTD’s heart and soul is Ford’s supercharged 5.2-liter Predator-based V8 engine, which previously appeared in the Mustang Shelby GT500. It churns out an eye-opening 815 maximum horsepower and a top speed of 202 mph. Its powertrain partner is an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle and a lightweight carbon-fiber driveshaft, which enable lightning-fast gear shifts and near 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution for optimal responsiveness, handling, and performance.

Standard Features and Available Upgrades

Inside, the Mustang GTD boasts a driver-centric cockpit that balances luxury with functionality. The purposefully designed cabin is adorned with premium materials, including leather, carbon fiber, and Dinamica. Hand-tailored RECARO seats feature laser-etched Miko upholstery with GTD accents. The GTD’s dial shifter and serial plate are crafted with materials sourced from retired Lockheed Martin F-22 jets, as are the available paddle shifters. State-of-the-art technology gives drivers access to the latest industry innovations, like Unreal gaming engine-driven GTD-specific graphics on the 12.4-inch LCD digital gauge cluster.

The GTD also comes with a thick-rimmed, flat-bottomed steering wheel accented by Dinamica and carbon-fiber inserts. This performance-oriented steering wheel has special buttons for adjusting suspension firmness and exhaust modes.

Outside, the GTD’s body is built for speed, shedding excess weight to optimize handling. Carbon-fiber body panels and a lightweight titanium exhaust come standard. Multi-purpose vents on the front fender improve airflow inside the wheel well to cool the brakes while reducing drag and lift. The GTD’s aerodynamic design, complete with a carbon-fiber C-pillar-mounted aero wing and front splitter, significantly enhances downforce so that the car remains firmly planted at high speeds.

The Mustang GTD is infused with pure racing DNA, showcasing advanced technologies and components derived from its iconic predecessor, the Mustang GT3. Its suspension system, though, is totally novel, with its state-of-the-art Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) technology and adaptive dampers. A semi-active setup featuring a short-long arm front suspension paired with a first-of-its-kind dual-ride height enhances lateral stiffness for improved cornering. The 2025 GTD is also the first-ever road-going Mustang with a dry sump oil system, which increases oil capacity and reduces oil starvation under high G-force loads on banked courses and tight turns. The available semi-active suspension with performance-enhancing Track Mode lowers the ride height by 40 mm to enable competition-level handling on the track.

Central to unlocking the GTD’s full potential is the optional Performance Package, which contains the mechanical components that helped the GTD conquer the legendary Nürburgring in under 7 minutes. Those features include aerodynamic dive planes, a larger front fascia splitter, underbody flaps, and a drag reduction system for the rear wing, which enhances stability and speed. The optional Lightweight Package will complement those features by removing some sound-deadening materials to reduce unnecessary weight, replacing the standard 20-inch aluminum wheels with magnesium wheels, and adding carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2025 GTD is equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia technology. The customizable 13.2-inch touchscreen is used to manage Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system, which integrates seamlessly with smartphones for a personalized experience complete with voice recognition, one-step destination search, wireless connectivity, and music streaming. This special software suite incorporates Unreal gaming engine technology and displays GTD-specific welcome and farewell graphics.
