The 2024 Ford Transit is available in two versions: the Cargo Van, which comes in a single base trim, and the Passenger Van, offered in XL and XLT trims. Buyers can select from three roof heights—Low (83.6 inches), Medium (100.8 inches), and High (110.1 inches)—and three lengths: Regular (130-inch wheelbase), Long (148-inch wheelbase), and Extended (148-inch wheelbase with an elongated body). Depending on the configuration, the Transit’s cargo volume (behind the first row) can reach up to 277.7 cubic feet for the Low Roof, 357.1 cubic feet for the Medium Roof, and 487.3 cubic feet for the High Roof. The vehicle also has different Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) options to accommodate heavier loads.
Powering the Ford Transit is a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine that puts out 275 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. An optional twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine is optional; it produces 310 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, with the option to upgrade all configurations to all-wheel drive for improved traction. A ten-speed automatic transmission is standard across all models.
The Transit Cargo Van is equipped with a range of features designed for convenience and efficiency. These include a sliding passenger-side door, 50/50-hinged rear doors with a 180-degree opening feature, halogen headlights with automatic on/off, power side mirrors, black-finished bumpers and side molding, and 16-inch steel wheels. The interior features manual air conditioning, dual vinyl-trimmed front bucket seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a center console, vinyl floor covering, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, dual USB ports, and a cloth headliner above the front seats.
The Passenger Van’s XL trim adds windows on the side panels and rear, a driver-controlled climate system with rear air conditioning and heat, a rearview mirror, fabric seating surfaces, a full-length cloth headliner, and lighting in the back compartment. The XLT trim upgrades the Transit with a body-colored front bumper, high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, fog lights, wiper-activated headlights, heated power side mirrors with integrated turn signals, an expanded center console, full carpeting, and additional interior lighting. Units equipped with the optional SYNC 4 infotainment system (details below) will also get automatic climate control.
Seating capacity is determined by the individual Transit Van’s length. The Regular-length Passenger Van accommodates 10 passengers across four rows, the Long-length version seats 12 (also in four rows), and the Extended-length version offers a fifth row for a total capacity of 15 passengers.
Ford equips all 2024 Transits with some important advanced driver assist features, including automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist. The XLT trim adds cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and active park assist with reverse braking assist. This equipment is optional with the XL and the Cargo Van. Adaptive cruise control and a surround-view monitor are available across the Transit range. All versions get a set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and a rearview monitor.
The Transit Cargo Van’s infotainment essentials revolve around a 4-inch multi-function display, an AM/FM stereo, and Bluetooth. Options include the Ford SYNC 3 system, which upgrades the Cargo Van to a total of four speakers and the Passenger Van to eight total speakers. The XLT trim has a 12-inch touchscreen equipped with SYNC 4, voice recognition, connected navigation, and SiriusXM satellite radio. SYNC 3 and SYNC 4 with the accompanying features are optional for the XL and Cargo Van. All Ford Transits have access to a Wi-Fi hotspot, FordPass Connect for emergency assistance and vehicle monitoring, and Ford Pro Telematics for advanced fleet management capabilities.
