EV truck buyers have four choices with the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning: XLT, Flash, Lariat, and Platinum. Every version is built around a four-door crew cab configuration. All trims incorporate a dual electric motor (one per axle) architecture, making all-wheel drive standard. The XLT has a standard-range 98-kWh battery, enabling this edition to produce 462 horsepower and have an estimated 240-mile range. Higher trims feature an extended-range 131-kWh battery that increases horsepower to 580 and extends the range to 320 miles (300 miles for the Platinum). The F-150 Lightning is rated to tow up to 10,000 pounds (as long as it’s properly equipped) or take on a maximum payload of 2,235 pounds.
Using a Level 3/DC fast charger, the 2024 F-150 Lightning takes about 32 to 38 minutes to reach 80% from a 15% state of charge. A Level 2/240-volt charger requires 10 to 13 hours for the same task. The standard-range battery needs less charging time than its extended-range counterpart. For added convenience, F-150 Lightning owners get access to the Tesla Supercharger Network.
The XLT is far from an entry-level vehicle, thanks to numerous standard comforts and conveniences. This most affordable F-150 Lightning has dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, power-adjustable pedals, the Mega Power Frunk (front trunk with power opening lid), auto on/off LED projector-style headlights, a power-locking tailgate, a 2.4kW Pro Power Onboard outlet, running boards, an onboard scale with a smart hitch, and a 60/40 flip-up split rear bench seat. Also standard are fabric upholstery, a 12-inch driver information display, heated power side mirrors, LED mirror-mounted spotlights, under-seat storage, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, intermittent windshield wipers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear privacy glass, multiple USB ports, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
The Flash trim adds a power tailgate, ten-way power front seats, proximity keyless entry, LED box lighting, and wireless device charging. The Lariat adds upscale elements like a twin-panel moonroof, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a driver’s position memory system, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a power-sliding rear window, heated power side mirrors with power-fold and driver’s side auto-dimming, and a tailgate step with a tailgate work surface. The Platinum takes Ford’s all-electric pickup to the next level with Nirvana leather upholstered front seats with massage, oak interior trim accents, a 9.6kW Pro Power Onboard outlet, and 22-inch aluminum wheels.
Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 is installed across the whole 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning line. This suite of advanced driver-assist technology includes forwarding collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert (includes trailer tow coverage), Pro Trailer hitch and backup assist, and automatic high beams. All trims also get a trial subscription to BlueCruise (a hands-free highway driving system), a surround-view monitor, and rear parking sensors. The Flash and above get adaptive cruise control, while the Lariat and Platinum are equipped with intersection assist and front parking sensors. An array of airbags comes standard, as do anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, curve control (to maintain vehicle control in too-fast situations on curves), and a rearview monitor.
The XLT gets Ford’s SYNC 4 system with a 12-inch touchscreen, while the Flash and above upgrade to SYNC 4A with a 15.5-inch touchscreen. Both systems have wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and connected navigation (a three-year subscription is included). Audio is served through a multi-speaker sound system in the XLT and Flash, while the Lariat and Platinum are loaded with a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen arrangement.
