Overview
The nimble and efficient 2022 Ford EcoSport is a subcompact crossover with a few surprises. For one thing, it’s one of the few vehicles in its class with standard all-wheel drive and an individual tire pressure monitoring system. Plus, most trims come with a moonroof, integrated navigation, and advanced infotainment features, proving that good things do come in small packages. Besides room for five, the EcoSport provides generous cargo space and comes wired for trailering: it can tow up to 2,000 pounds.
Trims and Fuel Economy
Ford sells the EcoSport in four trim levels: S, SE, SES, and Titanium. They all come with the same 166 horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which teams with a six-speed automatic transmission and the aforementioned all-wheel drive. According to the EPA’s official estimates, the EcoSport will get 23 mpg around town and 29 mpg on the highway, due in part to its fuel-saving automatic start-stop technology.
Standard Features and Available Equipment
The no-nonsense S trim gets a good mix of standard features such as manual air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, automatic headlights, a cargo cover, 16-inch aluminum wheels, and a tire pressure monitoring system that indicates which tire has an inflation issue. The SE adds a power moonroof, heated front seats, automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, rear privacy glass, rear parking sensors, fog lights, and roof rails. The optional SE Convenience Package is offered to add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a 110-volt outlet, ambient interior lighting, and infotainment upgrades (see the next section for details). The available SE Appearance Package will enhance the EcoSport’s looks and function with a six-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, unique cloth seating, orange and copper-tone interior accents, and 17-inch wheels.
The SES gets the Convenience Package contents as standard, along with ActiveX (leatherette) seating, a sport-tuned suspension, a heated steering wheel, black exterior accents (including 17-inch aluminum wheels), a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Titanium is equipped similarly to the SES – minus the sport suspension, black exterior trim, and larger wheels – and adds perforated ActiveX upholstery and chrome exterior accents. All EcoSport trims are eligible to come factory-equipped with remote start.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The version of Ford’s SYNC infotainment system in the S trim has a 4.2-inch display, a six-speaker audio setup, dual USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The SE upgrades to the SYNC 3 system, which has an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The SE Convenience Package can be added to that trim for navigation and a sound-system upgrade to seven speakers; its contents are standard on the SES and Titanium. The Titanium gets the ultimate audio system, a ten-speaker B&O unit.
